How to Wash Down Jackets
Washing something like a down jacket can seem daunting; it's expensive and you don't want to ruin it. We get it! So we pulled together a few simple things to keep in mind when washing your down jackets so they can keep you warm for many seasons to come.
-
Front Load Washer
-
Use a front-loading washing because a top-loading one can damage the down feathers
-
Wash on Cold
-
Set the wash cycle to "cold"and use a down-specific cleaner to avoid stripping the down feathers of their natural oils and removing any water repellent
-
Dry on Low Heat
-
After the wash cycle, throw your jacket in the dryer on low heat with a couple of tennis balls to help restore the fluff and break down any clumps of down
-
Hang to Store
-
Store your jacket in a dry place on a hanger (not compressed in a stuff sack) to protect the delicate down feathers
