How to Patch Holes in Sleeping Pads
Don’t let a hole in your sleeping pad make you toss it. Here are some steps for patching a hole in an inflatable sleeping pad.
What you need:
- Seam grip + Tenacious tape (usually can be purchased together in a pad repair kit)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Rubbing alcohol
- Mild soap
- Tub of water
- Sponge
- Find the leak: If it isn’t an obvious hole, you can find tiny leaks by inflating the pad and sponging soapy water onto the surface of it. Look for tiny bubbles to find the area with the leak. Mark the spot with a marker.
- Clean and dry the patch area: Wipe the area down with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and dry it off.
- Apply the patch and seam adhesive: Cut the patch to fit the area and apply the patch + seam grip to the leak. Give the adhesive plenty of time to fully cure.
