How to Patch Holes in Down Jackets
Is your favorite down jacket starting to shed some feathers? That doesn't mean it's time to ditch it! A few easy steps and you can have that problem taken care of.
What You'll Need
- Gear Repair Tape
- Scissors
- Rubbing Alcohol
- A Rag
1. Pull Feathers Back
- For any feathers sticking out of the hole, pinch them from the other side and pull them back inside the jacket instead of pulling them out.
2. Cut the Patch
- Cut the patch with about an inch of overlap in every direction. We recommend rounding the edges to make the patch last longer.
3. Clean the Area
- Using the rag and rubbing alcohol, clean the area around the hole.
4. Apply the Patch
- Smooth out the jacket to avoid wrinkles, then press the patch into place with your fingers. It will take about 48 hours for the patch to fully cure, so be gentle with it!
